R.K. PachauriVITO is proud to welcome again Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, Nobel prize winner and chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), as one of the keynote speakers at the 4th edition of the international i-SUP Conference on 1-2-3 September 2014. Rajendra Pachauri is an inspiring personality who is well placed to provide industry leaders, investors, research institutes and other stakeholders with valuable insights and to foster a lively debate.

The energy and climate debate is very hot. This week only, the global media commented extensively about the outcome of the latest United Nations report, drawn up by the IPCC, stating that governments must act faster to keep global warming under control.

Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC): "We don't have the luxury of time. Costs will rise sharply if strong action is delayed to 2030. We will have to move quickly and with an unprecedented level of international cooperation." IPCC scenarios show that low-carbon energies would have to triple or quadruple their share by 2050, displacing conventional fossil fuels as the top source of energy. Yet, exactly herein lie massive innovation and growth opportunities for the industry.

Dr. Rajendra Kumar Pachauri is the Chair of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the scientific intergovernmental body that provides decision-makers and the public with an objective source of information about climate change. He is also Director General of TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute), an independent research organization based in India. TERI provides knowledge on energy, environment, forestry, biotechnology, and the conservation of natural resources. Since 2007, VITO has been working closely with TERI, one of the most important research institutes in India. The collaboration on Cleantech transition focuses on the biobased economy, including water, energy and smart grid applications and ecocity development.

The i-SUP2014 conference will be concentrated on four central themes:

The primary focus will be on GROWTH and how INDUSTRY can achieve this, in close cooperation with innovation institutes and investors.

  • New business cases of intelligent networks: e.g. energy storage, ‘power to gas technologies’, geothermy.
  • The production of chemical components via process intensification and by using renewable resources: biomass, waste and residues, CO2,…
  • Access to raw materials at an affordable cost: sustainable mining, material management, recycling technologies, material substitution and geopolitical trade.
  • Financial resources: international investors and entrepreneurs are crucial players to support growth. But how can we deal with a new type of risks, embedded in today’s clean technology business?
